For a brief and glorious time, the backers of Forbidden Planet Bookstore
underwrote a similar venture in Sherman Oaks, at the corner of Van
Nuys and
Ventura Boulevard, called Outer Limits. It shut down in the early
1990s.

Outer Limits was anything but a hole-in-the-wall specialty shop.
It actually had a sense of design presaging the way most of these
emporia look today.

Amy Horsting's usual task is to shepherd Neil Gaiman around whenever
he's in LA.

With Jessie Horsting, chief ramrod of Outer Limits, also editor
of the
much-missed MIDNIGHT GRAFFITI magazine.
