Joe Bob Briggs had a few things to say about LEATHERFACE, like:
"
They weenied out on us, they suckered us for five bucks, and they
profaned
the name of the most revered horror movie in film history."
"
Now, I'm not gonna say it's ALL bad, I mean, there's some goldang
scary
stuff in it"
"Go ahead, run the flick. But I gotta go. I don't want to cry
in public. I'm sorry."
But our trailer was pretty cool. We hired the exact same ad
company that
did the original trailer for EXCALIBUR, since that was what we were
satirizing.
Directed by Jeff Burr and starring R.A. Mihailoff as Leatherface
(that's not R.A. in the trailer).
Sometimes it's so dark when you're filming that you have to shine
a
flashlight on the clapper board lady just to accurately slate the
shot.
If you squint and look very closely, you'll notice R.A. is not wearing
his
Leatherface mask as he wields a smaller, utility saw for the closeups
of
Ryan's leg getting chewed apart (because his face won't appear in
the shot).
"
I'm ready for my closeup, Mr. Burr."
Between takes, DJS with R.A. Mihailoff in the makeup trailer.
One of these guys is Leatherface. One ain't.
The day after shooting wrapped on LEATHERFACE, stars Ken Foree and
R.A.
Mihailoff stopped by an autograph party at Outer
Limits Bookstore in Sherman
Oaks to drink a toast.
And thirteen years later, here they are at a Dark Delicacies signing
event,
along with Robert Meyer Burnett (writer/director of FREE ENTERPRISE),
whose
first film job was as a production assistant on LEATHERFACE.
