ALIEN

Greg Nicotero and DJS with the original Nostromo from ALIEN, rescued from Bob Burns' Burbank driveway after two decades-plus exposed to the elements. The 7x7-foot, wood framed "miniature" weighs over 400 pounds (it had to be raised up and down in the movie using a forklift) and is currently being restored at KNB EFX Group.

Greg Nicotero and DJS pick apart the Nostromo.

Detail of Nostromo backside, where a forklift was employed to raise the ship up and down in ALIEN. It was wired for 220 volts so we couldn't fire it up... yet.

Feet: Greg's (left), and the full-sized landing foot seen in the movie, crushing boulders as the Nostromo touches down.

Front top of Nostromo, showing how much plastic has been lost in 20 years.

Thruster section which attached to the open back of the ship for rear-angle shots.

Here's the skinny on the forthcoming Alien box set, due for release September, 2003:

Alien: will include 14 deleted scenes for a total of 15 more minutes of the movie.

Aliens: will allow viewers to choose between the theatrical-release version and the James Cameron "director's cut."

Alien 3: will include David Fincher's 2 hr. 50 min original version of the movie, which has never been released.

Alien Resurrection: will feature an alternate opening and ending (the crash on Earth).

And the ninth (yes, ninth) bonus disc will feature over three hours of material, including:

  • The Alien Legacy - Was a free mail-in offer
  • Alien Evolution – BBC4 Documentary by the Mad Scots of Nobles Gate!
  • Darkhorse Alien Comics
  • Darkhorse Alien vs. Predator
  • Complete Laser Disc features – on the theory that now you can toss out the old LDs and still have everything imaginable in this boxed set.
  • DVD-ROM
